What are Challenges?
Challenges are special opportunities created by those interested in promoting our Days of Praise campaign in unique ways. Generally a business owner, individual, or family that offers a challenge desires to make a contribution to help us reach our goal, but wants to maximize their involvement by "challenging" others to join them. In such cases the donors potential gift is offered in good faith as a "challenge gift." Until the listening audience meets the stipulations of the particular challenge the potential donor is under no obligation to give it. However, provided the audience rises to the challenge the Challenger is then obligated to follow through with the particular donation.
A popular challenge over the years is as follows: "A partner from Sandusky is offering a $1000.00 matching challenge for the next hour. All donations that come in during the next hour will be matched dollar-for-dollar by our challenger from Sandusky up to a total of $1000.00." In this case the challenger is obligated to match each gift that comes in during the specified hour until a total of $1000.00 is reached. In the event that less than a $1000.00 was called in by interested listeners during that hour the Challenger would only match that amount.
